I just grabbed this from the bookstore because I didn't recognize the name and thus assumed (correctly) that I hadn't read it before. When I sat down to read it, I discovered it is a compilation of short stories.
I much prefer Steinbeck's novels... the short stories are good but with no promise of redemption for the characters.
